STEM
At Coolaroo South Primary School, our STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Maths) program fosters a deep curiosity for all that is around us. We are not afraid to get messy!
We use technology to explore photography, coding, robotics and 3D design and printing.
Science
We realise the importance of engaging students. Science is taught through using a range of activities that allow students to explore and experiment. Students further develop their literacy skills by researching and reviewing the scientific topics introduced in class.
Students are given an introduction to the basics of Science in the early years and progress to a deeper understanding throughout their schooling.
Technology
We understand that technology forms a vital part of the 21st century and young people are using mobile technology to assist them in life and learning. The school offers a highly developed and well resourced information technology program including a 3D printer.
Students have access to a suite of mobile devices; netbooks, macbooks and iPads across all spaces within the school. Teachers integrate technology into their classroom and use it effectively to enhance student learning across all areas of the curriculum.

Photography
Students explore basic photography skills like focus and composition using the school iPad’s and cameras. They digitally store a portfolio of work and learn to edit their photos.
A photography exhibit is held each year. Students select a favourite photo from their portfolio and build a frame to exhibit it.
Coding & Robotics
Students are given the opportunity to code in various programs throughout the year. They code a variety of games and robots to follow a set of commands.
3D Printing & Design
Students in Years 5/6 are challenged to design and make a 3D car that will race down a track powered by a CO2 gas canister. Students use the 3D printer to print their car designs and are able to compete against two other schools in the Hume region to race before attending the qualifying finals at Quantum Victoria.
